Aimee & Harry

Two best friends, a home in Merewether, sea-shanties, wigs and a whole lot of love.

This story starts with an introduction in the shower…

After their separate surf lessons teaching beginners, Harry spotted Aimee during her outdoor rinse-off and couldn’t resist saying hi. He thought she was hawt and way out of his league, but he figured, if I’m kind enough, maybe I’ll leave a good impression. Aimee was polite and listened as he nervously rambled on, though she confessed later, she doesn’t recall this meeting at all. Harry, on the other hand, never forgot. As he put it, “from that moment, I was determined to track down the gorgeous woman driving the red Toyota Corolla.”

The next time Harry saw Aimee, he lingered in the carpark just to say hi.

They had both been surfing at Dixon Park. Harry had spotted Aimee a few times, but on this day he’d finally gained the courage to approach her again. He stretched out his post-surf routine, walked right on up to her as she approached her car, and this is the day Aimee remembers. On this day she said she met the friendly, goofy, funny guy that everyone in Newcastle seems to know and love.

They started surfing together at sunset, floating and chatting about their days.

Aimee found herself looking forward to these afternoons, and Harry, sensing his chance, invited her to watch him perform at a gig. She hesitated but ultimately decided to go—alone. Seeing her walk in solo and sober, Harry knew this was serious. He got so nervous he had a few too many pints, but with liquid courage, he finally asked, “Will you please go out to tea with me?!”

Fast-forward to their wedding day

As Aimee’s housemate at the time, I had a front-row seat to this love story as it unfolded. So when it came time for them to put a ring on it, I would have moved heaven and earth to be the one to make it official. But in true Aimee and Harry fashion, they were already in my corner—without even realising it, they moved mountains to have me there, even if it meant giving themselves less than three months to plan a wedding.

It doesn’t take a lot to make magic.

After a ceremony filled with love, tears, and plenty of giggles (if I do say so myself 😉), the night shifted into full house-party mode. Bluegrass tunes & Sea-Shanties set the soundtrack, Sea-Salt & Sage kept everyone happily fed, and as we sat down to hear some speeches, out came the life-sized props!

And then came out the wigs...

As Aimee and Harry finished their first dance, the party truly started. The Irish jigs were hot to trot, and just when you thought you’d seen it all, out came a bag of costumes and wigs—because no celebration of Aimee and Harry would be complete without a little flair.
